SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraqi forces thwarted an attempt to target convoys supplying the security forces in Babil province, a military spokesman said on Sunday.

Yehia Rasool, spokesman for commander-in-chief of the armed forces, intelligence units discovered two explosive devices planted to target convoys transporting equipment for the Iraqi forces.

“One of them was detonated on site while the other was defused and lifted,” Rasool said in a tweet.

Convoys supplying the Iraqi forces are frequently attacked in the southern Iraqi provinces.

U.S. and Iraqi officials blame Iran-backed militias for the attacks on the convoys.
