Iraq COVID-19 cases surge past 400,000: health ministry

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Iraq exceeded 400,000 on Saturday, the ministry of health said.

In a statement, the ministry of health said it had recorded 2,344 new cases of the coronavirus in the past 24 hours.

The ministry further said 857 cases were in Baghdad, 286 in Duhok, 266 in Sulaimani, 217 in Erbil, 159 in Diyala, 134 in Nineveh and 120 in Wasit.

It added that it had registered 68 new cases in Saladin, 60 in Maysan, 57 in Karbala, 32 in Basra, 27 in Najaf, 17 in Anbar, 15 in Kirkuk, 14 in Diwaniyah, 13 in Babil and two in Muthanna.

The health ministry stated that 55 more patients had died from the virus in the last 24 hours, while 4,233 others had recovered.

The total number of coronavirus infections have reached 400,124, of which 332,330 recovered and 9,790 died, according to the ministry’s figures.
