SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Turkey has deported eight Iraqi nationals accused of having links to the Islamic state (ISIS), according to Turkish media.
Daily Sabah cited security officials as saying that the Iraqis were arrested in an operation against ISIS suspects in Samsun province.
Prosecutors in Samsun province ordered to deport the Iraqis on Monday, they added.
“The suspects were handed over to anti-human trafficking and border gates teams for their deportation procedures,” the officials told Daily Sabah.
Separately, the security forces detained at least nine ISIS suspects in counter-terrorism operations on Tuesday, state-owned Anadolu agency said.
Turkish security forces intermittently carry out raids against ISIS suspects in the country. In September, Turkish forces detained 20 Iraqis over suspected membership to ISIS.
Islamic State has conducted numerous attacks across Turkey, including on a nightclub in Istanbul on Jan. 1, 2017 in which 39 people were killed, and a bombing in the city’s historic heart that killed 12 in 2016.
