SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Islamic State (ISIS) militants attacked Peshmerga forces in south of Erbil on Saturday night, killing two Peshmerga, said the Kurdistan Region’s Counter-Terrorism Directorate (CTD).
A Peshmerga source told Esta Media Network that the militants attacked the Peshmerga forces near Prde, south of Erbil, at 09:40 p.m. (local time).
A number of Peshmerga forces were wounded in the attack, said the source, who spoke under condition of anonymity.
Meanwhile, the CTD said two members of the Peshmerga forces were “martyred”.
In a separate statement, the ministry of Peshmerga confirmed the death of the two Peshmerga, saying they were killed as the Peshmerga forces were repelling the attack.
“We have warned of the reorganization and re-emergence of ISIS sleeper cells several times,” the ministry added.
