SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Police detained four people over drug using in Sulaimani province, authorities said on Monday.
The directorate of police in Sulaimani said its units started to investigate information about four people who said to have been using drugs in a neighborhood in the city.
Units of Police Station in Sarchinar arrested four suspects including a woman and seized a number of narcotics during a raid on the house, the directorate said in a statement.
Three of the suspects are years old and the other is 18 years, the statement read.
Kurdish security forces seized more than 555 kilograms of drugs including heroin, methamphetamine and hashish in 2020, according to the Kurdistan Region’s directorate of anti-narcotics.
Kurdish officials have warned that drug trafficking threatens to become an epidemic if anti-narcotics forces fail to curtail its rise in the Kurdistan Region.
According to security officials, some of the drugs that they seize are imported illegally from Iran.
