SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) on Friday condemned Turkish airstrikes near Kirkuk, calling for “immediate halt” of the bombardment.
Earlier, a Turkish drone bombed Saidan village in Qara Hanjir sub-district, located between Chamchamal and Kirkuk.
Casualties remained unclear.
“The PUK Politburo condemns Turkish warplanes’ airstrikes on Qara Hanjir near Kirkuk city, which resulted in casualties and damages,” the politburo said in a statement.
“This encroachment is a bad development that has taken place in the depths of the Kurdistan Region and Iraq. Therefore, we call for the immediate halt because there is no justification for encroachment and harming innocent people,” it added.
It also called on the federal government to carry out its “constitutional and national duty” to protect its soil, including the Kurdistan Region, and to warn Turkey through diplomatic channels.
There were no reports of the casualties in the strike.
It was the second attack on the village this week. On Monday, another Turkish drone bombed the village, injuring a man and a woman there.
