SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) said the security forces in Erbil had released and expelled its representative who was detained in June.

Jihad Hassan, representative of the AANES, along with two Democratic Union Party (PYD) representatives were detained in Erbil in June as they went to welcome a group of European lawmakers and intellectuals at the airport.

In a statement, the AANES said Asayish (security) forces in Erbil released Hassan on the border crossing with Rojava at 05:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Rojava is referred to areas under the control of Kurdish forces in northeastern Syria.

The AANES representative was deported to Rojava following his release, according to the statement.

The Asayish forces told Hassan that he “must not enter Erbil in any way and Erbil is forbidden from him,” the AANES quoted them as saying.

“They have not given him back his identity cards and equipment that were taken from him,” it added.
