Kurdistan territory shouldn’t be used to disrupt region’s security: KRG spokesman

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Kurdistan Region’s territory should not be used to disrupt security of the region, a government spokesman said on Tuesday.

“Not only Turkey, other countries also bomb the Kurdistan Region’s border areas,” said Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) spokesman Jotiar Adil.

“We don’t want the Kurdistan Region’s territory to be used to disrupt security of the region. This is the official stance of the KRG,” Adil told Esta Media Network.

His comments came in response to a question of Esta’s reporter, who asked about the killing of a Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) member in Sulaimani.

On Friday, a gunman killed Sarhad Shukri, member of the PKK committee of Martyrs’ Family, in Sulaimani’s Chwarchra neighborhood.

Another PKK follower, Farhad Barsh, was injured in the province on Thursday.

Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani condemned the assassination of the PKK member, ordered the security forces to find and bring perpetrators to justice.

The security forces detained the main suspect of the two acts, authorities in Sulaimani said on Saturday.

Turkey and Iran intermittently bombard targets they say belonging to the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and Iranian Kurdish armed groups on the border areas in the Kurdistan Region.
