SULAIMANI (ESTA) — A Kurdish man was wounded after armed men said to be the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) fighters opened fire at him in Pishdar district in north of Sulaimani, said a local official on Thursday.

Director of Halsho sub-district Bakr Waisee said the “PKK fighters” shot the man in Zale village in the sub-district after he refused to pay customs fees to them.

The man was a laborer who brough livestock from Iran to the Kurdistan Region, the official told Esta Media Network.

“Tensions and arguments occurred between the laborer and the PKK fighters in Zale village … They asked the laborer to pay them money, but he didn’t do so,” the official said.

“He was shot and two bullets hit his legs,” he added.

The security forces have arrested the PKK fighters, Waisee noted, without giving the number of them.

People who work on the border between Iran and the Kurdistan Region claim that PKK fighters demand them pay customs fees in areas where they are located.
