SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Two Kurdish Kolbars (porters) was killed by Turkish forces on the border area between Iran and Turkey, a rights watchdog said.
Hengaw Organization for Human Rights said the Turkish armed forces opened fire at a number of Kolbars in the forests of Van province on Monday.
Three other Kolbars were wounded in the attack, according to Hengaw, which monitors human rights abuses in Iranian Kurdistan.
“Turkey’s armed forces have detained five other Kolbars,” Hengaw said, citing reports.
At least five Kolbars have been killed and six others have been wounded by the Turkish forces since January, according to the organization.
Kolbars carry goods across the mountainous border between Iran, Iraq and Turkey on their backs. They frequently come under fire from Iranian border guards.
