SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraqi forces arrested a senior Islamic State (ISIS) member in coordination with the Kurdish security forces, Iraq’s intelligence service said on Saturday.

Iraqi intelligence service said in a statement that its forces detained “one of the prominent terrorists” in coordination with Asayish (security) forces in Erbil.

The militant, Abu Nayaf, was wanted in accordance with Article 4 of Iraqi anti-terrorism law, the intelligence service stated.

Nayaf “held several positions in the so-called north Baghdad state,” the Iraqi intelligence agency added.

Iraq declared victory over Islamic State in December 2017 but the militants have regrouped in the Hamrin mountain range which extends into the northern provinces – an area described by officials as a “triangle of death”.
