SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi arrived in Kuwait on Sunday to meet with senior officials, according to his office.

Kadhimi accompanied by a government delegation will discuss economic, political, energy and investment files during his meeting with Kuwaiti officials.

Diplomatic ties between the two neighbors were cut after the invasion of Kuwait, which was ended by the 1991 Gulf War, but restored after Saddam Hussein’s removal from power in 2003.

The Iraqi premier told Kuwaiti newspaper al-Rai that “direct sincere and fraternal dialogue between Iraq and Kuwait is the shortest way” to strengthen relations, deepen cooperation, resolve differences and build foundations for a better future for both countries.

“Talks with the political leadership in Kuwait are very necessary to draw a regional roadmap that clearly defines the changes in the region and ways to deal with them,” he said during an interview with al-Rai published on Saturday.
