Iraq offers condolences to Algeria over 37 reported deaths amid wildfire

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraq’s foreign minister on Saturday expressed heartfelt condolences to Algeria over the victims of a wildfire that blazed on Thursday and killed at least 37 people.

Iraq offered deep condolences to Algeria over the victims of the forest fires in a statement by the foreign ministry.

“The Ministry of Foreign affairs (MOFA) offered condolences to the Algerian government and brotherly people over the victims of the forest fires that broke out in a number of Algerian provinces, causing casualties”, MOFA said.

“We share with our brothers in Algeria, the government and people their grief at these times, and offer our sincere heartfelt condolences and sincere sympathy to the families of the victims, wishing a speedy recovery to all wounded.” It said.

On Thursday local news outlets reported that massive wildfires were burning in mountainous areas east of Algeria, and the victims were from the provinces of Al Taref, and Setif.

Emergency services have confirmed, that the death toll from wildfires fanned by drought and a blistering heatwave in Algeria has risen to 37 and the number of injured also increased to 183 people.

Most of the wildfires have been put out while some are under control, but firefighters and helicopters are still monitoring the provinces, according to officials.
