SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Kurdistan Region’s daily COVID-19 deaths hit a new record of 33 on Saturday, according to the ministry of health.

The Region’s daily coronavirus deaths are on the rise after infections peaked in July.

Authorities blame the infectious Delta variant and people who do not follow the health guidelines.

In a statement, the ministry of health said it had recorded 13 new deaths in Erbil, six in Sulaimani, 10 in Duhok and four in Garmian and Raparin in the previous 24 hours.

The Kurdistan Region’s official total coronavirus death toll stands at 5,200, figures released by the ministry of health showed.

The Region reported 722 new coronavirus infections on Saturday, bringing the total number to 277,305.

Daily cases have so far declined in August after the July peak.
