SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Security forces detained a Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) cadre in the Kurdistan Region’s sub-district of Shiladze, an official from the party said on Thursday.
Deputy head of PUK office in Shiladze Dildar Mezi said a unit of the security forces arrested Birhat Mahdi Haji outside Shiladze police station on Thursday morning.
“The force raided his house later and took some equipment,” Mezi told Esta Media Network.
“He was on the way to Shiladze police station today after he was informed to pay a visit to the station, but he was detained by a security force in front of the station,” he added.
It is still unclear why the PUK cadre was taken to custody.
In February, the security forces detained another PUK member in Darkar sub-district in Zakho district over alleged links to the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), according to the PUK office in Duhok.
