SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Co-president Bafel Talabani said on Thursday the party is with understanding and dialogue to resolve issues in Iraq.

Talabani met with Spanish Ambassador to Iraq Juan Jose Escobar at the PUK politburo in Sulaimani.

Talabani and Escobar discussed the political developments and the upcoming Iraqi elections during the meeting, Talabani’s office said in a statement.

“The PUK is with understanding and the language of dialogue to resolve issues and to provide an appropriate environment for holding a transparent and clean election that responds to demands of all sides and will motivate further political, social and economic stability,” Talabani said.

Regarding Kurdistan coalition, Talabani said the PUK and Gorran Movement would work to unify the “differences within the Kurdish home in the framework of the Kurdistan Coalition, and we want to defend our constitutional rights as one team in Baghdad”.

“The Kurdish Coalition has been formed to unify forces and national unity and to protect the high interests,” he noted.

He further said after the elections the coalition’s priority would be to create national consensus and a wide front between all Kurdish political parties, according to the statement.

Talabani also explained the current changes and reforms towards correcting the party’s path, reiterating that there “is a new PUK now, and a political and organizational life is going on on the basis of healthy and civic principles, and we will continue struggle with a national strategy,” the statement read.
