SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Co-president Bafel Talabani on Wednesday welcomed the decision of the UNESCO to add the Hawraman region of western Iran to its World Heritage list.
UNESCO added the Hawraman region, located in Iran’s Kermanshah province, to its World Heritage list with a unanimous vote on Tuesday.
“Hawraman is an important and historical region of Kurdistan and has played a pioneering role in the development of the cultural, literary and social fields of our people,” the PUK co-president said in a statement.
Talabani said the PUK “warmly” congratulated people of Kurdistan and Hawraman region, hoping everyone will be cooperative so as to further develop Kurdistan’s culture and heritage and protect its ancient archeological sites, the statement read.
