Kurdistan Region records highest daily rise in COVID-19 cases

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Kurdistan Region recorded its highest number of infections from coronavirus within 24-hour period this year, official health ministry figures showed on Monday.

In a statement, the Iraqi health ministry said new coronavirus cases in Iraq rose by 9,149 on Monday, bringing the total number to 1,438,511.

The ministry further said 1,368 new infections were recorded in the Kurdistan Region, It added that 648 cases were in Duhok, 365 in Erbil and 355 in Sulaimani.

There were four new deaths in Sulaimani, Erbil and Duhok, the ministry added.

The Kurdistan Region’s total number of infections reached 196,073, with 4,544 deaths, the ministry’s figures showed.
