SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Turkish warplanes carried out airstrikes nearly 20 times against targets in the Kurdistan Region’s province of Duhok on Sunday, a local official and Esta’s reporter said.
Director of Shiladze sub-district Rizgar Obeid said Turkish fighter jets had conducted strikes two times near the Kurazhar mountain in the sub-district, east of Amedi.
“The strikes caused no casualties, but damaged the forests of Kurazhar mountain,” he told Esta Media Network.
Esta Media Network reporter in Duhok said the Turkish warplanes also launched airstrikes nearly “15 times” in Khamtir mountain in Zakho district.
The fighter jets also bombed Griye mountain twice, located in Deraluk sub-district, he added.
There were no casualties in the strikes, according to the reporter.
Turkey has taken its decades-old conflict with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) deep into the Kurdistan Region, establishing military bases and deploying armed military drones against the fighters in their mountain strongholds.
Most of the operations have focused on territory up to 30 km (20 miles) from the border.
