SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The ministry of health on Friday warned of the third wave of the coronavirus outbreak in the Kurdistan Region amid a rise in COVID-19 cases.

In a statement, the ministry of health said the number of people admitted to the coronavirus centers had increased in the past days.

“The number of hospitalized patients has increased dramatically,” the ministry added.

It also called on people to follow health guidelines, including wearing masks and social distance.

“The risks will increase in the third wave of the coronavirus outbreak,” health ministry’s spokesman Aso Hawezi told Esta Media Network.

Hawezi also warned of “risks of Delta variant spread in the Kurdistan Region.”

On Friday, the ministry recorded more than 1,000 new cases of COVID-19 in 24 hours, bringing the total number to 193,270.

On Thursday, Minister of Health Saman Barzinji warned that the Kurdistan Region had moved from coronavirus yellow level to orange alert.

The minister warned that the coronavirus had not ended yet and that the Region “is not in a situation where we can remove masks”.
