Kolbar shot dead by Iranian forces in Sardasht – watchdog

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — A Kurdish Kolbar (porter) was shot dead by Iranian forces in Sardasht on Saturday, a rights watchdog said.

Hengaw Organization for Human Rights said in a statement that the Iranian security forces opened fire at a group of Kolbars in Dolabi area in Sardasht on Saturday.

A Kolbar, named Wahid Ahmed Pura, was killed during the shooting, said the organization, which monitors human rights abuses in Iranian Kurdistan.

At least five Kolbars had been killed and 14 others had been wounded in the past month, Hengaw said in its monthly report on Tuesday.

Kolbars carry goods across the mountainous border between Iran, Iraq and Turkey on their backs. They frequently come under fire from Iranian border guards.
