SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Clashes erupted between Asayish forces and a unit of commando forces in Sarchinar neighborhood in Sulaimani city late on Monday, a security source told Esta Media Network.

The source, who spoke under condition of anonymity because it wasn’t authorized to speak to media, said Asayish (security) forces clashed with a unit of commando forces in the neighborhood of Sarchinar at around 11:30 p.m. on Monday.

Three members of the Asayish forces and four members of the commando forces were wounded in the fighting, the source added.

It was not clear what caused the clashes, but the source said it was due to a “special reason”.

The security forces have launched an investigation into the incident.

There has been no official statement from authorities in Sulaimani.

It was the second such incident that took place in Sulaimani city. In February, a unit of Peshmerga’s commando forces attacked Asayish personnel at Tasluja checkpoint on Sulaimani-Kirkuk road.

A member of Asayish died after he was transferred to Shar hospital in Sulaimani and five others were wounded.

The directorate of Asayish said a “misunderstanding” caused the clashes at the checkpoint.
