SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Residents in Sulaimani city have been warned to avoid exerting themselves outdoors unless necessary, as temperatures rise over the coming days.
In a statement, Sulaimani Center District called on residents to avoid exposing themselves to sun when high temperatures occur.
Temperatures have hit above 40 degrees Celsius (104 Fahrenheit) in the Kurdistan Region. As the Region enters summer season, weather is set to exceed 45 degrees.
The Sulaimani center district also called on people to stay away from foods and drinks that are stored in warm places, which could cause diarrhea and vomit.
It further said residents should stay in their homes from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and should only go out when it is necessary.
“They should not go out unless it is for a very necessary job, especially people who have chronic diseases,” it added.
In general, Iraq is in the middle of a heatwave with temperatures rising above 50 degrees (122 Fahrenheit) during the day.
