SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraqi forces have launched an investigation to a Katyusha rocket attack targeted the country’s Ain al-Asad airbase housing U.S.-led Coalition troops, the army said on Sunday.

A Katyusha rocket launched from al-Baghdadi area fell near the base in Anbar province, Iraqi Security Media Cell said in a statement.

“Security forces are launching an investigation into the fall of a Katyusha rocket that did not explode,” it added.

Bases that host U.S. and Coalition troops in Iraq intermittently come under rocket and drone attacks, carried out by armed groups.

No groups have claimed responsibility for the attacks, but armed groups that some Iraqi officials say are backed by Iran have claimed similar incidents.

U.S. officials blame Iran-backed militias for regular rocket attacks on U.S. facilities in Iraq, including near the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad.
