KRG PM says Erbil, Baghdad reach deal for restoring federal budgetary payments

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani announced on Tuesday Erbil and Baghdad have reached an agreement that will see budgetary payment restored to the Region.

Barzani said in a tweet that he had spoken by phone with Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi as part of ongoing talks and shared commitment to bring certainty to the relationship between the Region and Baghdad. 

“I’m pleased to announce we’ve reached a deal that will see federal budgetary payments restored to the KRI and backdated to Jan 2021,” Barzani tweeted.

“During our call, I thanked him for his leadership, and the federal cabinet for its support for this important milestone. We overcame this difficult, long-standing obstacle together,” he said.
