PUK President, Japanese ambassador discuss political situation

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Bafel Talabani received the Japanese ambassador to Iraq, Futoshi Matsumoto, on Wednesday in Sulaimani’s Dabashan area.

A statement from Talabani’s office said the President and the diplomat met and discussed the latest political developments.

The two sides stressed improving the relations between the Kurdistan Region and Japan, in a manner that serves the mutual high interests of both sides, according to the statement.

Part of the discussions was dedicated to the Kurdistan Region people’s livelihood and the absence of “healthy” governance in the Region, the office in the statement added.

Speaking about PUK’s stance Talabani said, “We cannot support that unhealthy policy that the government has adopted, where government joints have been manipulated.”

“our people’s lives are before a danger of a government that discriminates between the cities,” President Talabani told the diplomat.

“The rest of the Region political parties who share the same stance are against it and we will make necessary decisions in that regard,” Talabani added.

In the continuation of the meeting, President Talabani further referred to the implementation of the Iraqi government agenda.

Moreover, Talabani stressed the coordination between the parties as an important factor to succeed in the reform program and secure stability in the country.
