Kurdistan president, PM and parties send congratulatory messages to PUK

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani, Prime Minister Masour Barzani and several political parties on Tuesday sent congratulatory messages to the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) on the 46th anniversary of the party’s founding.

In a phone call with the PUK co-presidents, Barzani reiterated that the PUK had played a “clear role in the historic struggle, the struggle for freedom and securing the achievements of Kurdistan’s people” as a major party in the Kurdistan Region, according to a statement released by his office.

The Region’s president considered as importance and necessity the “role, duty and responsibility of the PUK and other parties for creating unity, being together and protecting rights and achievements of Kurdistan’s people now and in the future,” the statement read.

The PUK co-presidents also stressed on unity and being together for protecting rights and achievements of the Region’s people, according to the statement.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani hoped the PUK would continue to support the government’s agenda to serve the Region’s people.

“On the anniversary of the PUK’s establishment, I extend warm congratulations to PUK patriots who continue to fight for Kurdistani rights,” Barzani said in a tweet.

“As a primary and allied party in the government, I hope that the PUK will continue to support our joint agenda to serve our nation,” he added.

The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) Politburo also issued a congratulatory message to the PUK, stressing on coordination and unity between the two parties.

“The PUK is the KDP’s partner in the struggle and an important and main ally, and have played an effective role alongside other parties in security and protecting our achievements,” the party’s politburo said.

It also stressed on coordination and unity between the parties to resolve issues, provide good livings and happiness for people, defend that experience, and insist on securing and protecting all the rights of the Kurdistan Region.

In its congratulatory message, Change Movement (Gorran) hoped to develop their relations based on demands of people.

“We hope this occasion will be an encourage for more unity of Kurdistanis across Iraq, and a strong factor for reform inside Kurdistan,” the party said.
