SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraqi counter-terrorism service has received ammunition and weapons from the U.S.-led Coalition forces, worth nearly $3 million, said Iraq’s military and Coalition forces.
Coalition Spokesman Col. Wayne Marotto said the counter-terrorism directorate had received ammunition and weapons valued $3 million through the U.S. Counter-ISIS Train and Equip Fund (CTEF) program.
The Coalition “remains committed to enable our partners’ capabilities in the #DefeatDaesh mission,” he said in a tweet, referring to the coalition’s mission to defeat Islamic State (ISIS).
The Iraqi security media cell said on Monday that the military assistance for the counter-terrorism forces valued $2,930,410.
On Thursday, the Coalition forces provided weapons and ammunition to the Iraqi military at Ain al-Asad air base, worth more than $204,000.
The Coalition Forces led by the United States was formed in 2014 when ISIS militants overran large swathes of territory in Iraq and Syria. The Coalition backed Iraqi and Kurdish forces to defeat ISIS militants in the country.
In December 2020, the Coalition said it had funded more than $5 billion of support to equip and train Iraqi and Kurdish forces since 2014.
