SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Two more Peshmerga of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (PDKI) were killed in clashes with Iranian forces in northwestern Iran, the group said on Sunday.

The PDKI Peshmerga Command said in a statement that Iranian forces attacked a unit of its fighters near the village of Likbn on the main road between Mahabad and Piranshahr on Saturday night.

“Two Peshmerga were martyred in the clashes,” it added.

Clashes intermittently erupt between the Iranian forces and the PDKI fighters, an armed opposition group fighting for greater autonomy for Iran’s Kurdish community, in the Kurdish areas in northwestern Iran.

On Friday, the PDKI said clashes broke out between its Peshmerga and revolutionary guards in an area between Mahabad and Bokan on May 20. Two Peshmerga were killed in the fighting.

Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, which monitors human rights abuses in Iranian Kurdistan, said three members of the Iranian security forces were killed in the fighting.
