Another wave of snow to hit Kurdistan Region Wednesday

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Another wave of snow will hit the Kurdistan Region on Wednesday, the General Directorate of Meteorology and Seismology said on Tuesday.

Heavy snowfalls blanketed Sulaimani and Halabja province as well as several other areas in Erbil governorate on Monday, forcing authorities to close several main roads between the cities and towns.

Authorities in Sulaimani and Halabja on Monday announced a two-day holiday for the provinces due to the snowfalls.

The Region’s general directorate of meteorology and seismology said on Tuesday that another snowfall would hit the Region on Wednesday and that it’s impact would be higher in the mountain’s areas.

“From tomorrow, a wave of snow will cover the entire Kurdistan Region, and it will start in the afternoon and its impact will be higher at night,” it said in a statement.

“Snow will fall in all provinces of the Kurdistan Region, including Erbil,” it added.

The impact of the snow wave will end on Thursday night, it said.

The general directorate of meteorology and seismology said Sulaimani saw 12 centimeters of snow on Monday, while there was 36 centimeters of snow in Halabja.

It also recorded 1 meter of snow in Haji Omran in Erbil governorate.
