SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraqi security forces found nine Islamic State (ISIS) hideouts and 127 rockets in Kirkuk province on Wednesday, according to the Iraqi military.

The Iraqi security forces alongside Hashid al-Shaabi launched a large-scale operation against ISIS militants from four directions in Kirkuk on Wednesday.

The operation was to clear the areas of Wadi al-Shay and Wadi Zighaitoon and Taza Khurmatu district as well as the village of al-Sada in the province.

Iraqi Security Media Cell said in a statement that the security forces had found nine ISIS hideouts, three tunnels, 127 rockets and 15 explosive devices.

The federal government announced victory over ISIS by the end of 2017 after Iraqi and Kurdish forces backed by U.S.-led Coalition regained control of areas once captured by the militant group.

Despite its defeat, ISIS still poses a threat to the security and stability of the country as there are still sleeper cells in Iraq.
