Up to 200 hectares of lands burned in north of Sulaimani

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Authorities said on Wednesday up to 2,000 dunams of lands (200 hectares) were burned in a fire incident in the Kurdistan Region’s district of Mawat.

A large fire broke out in the Grda Rash mountain in the village of Bargurd in Mawat district, 50 kilometers north of Sulaimani city, the directorate of forest police said in a statement.

“Up to 2,000 dunams of lands and grasses were burned in a large fire erupted due to an unknown incident,” the police added.

“Teams of the forest police directorate arrived at the scene but could not extinguish it in a short period of time due to the presence of mines and explosives there,” the directorate stated.

More than 20 dunams of people’s agricultural fields were also burned in the fire.
