SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Two Katyusha rockets landed on Tuesday on Iraq’s Ain al-Asad air base which hosts U.S.-led Coalition troops, the Iraqi military said.
The two rockets landed in an empty square at the air base in Anbar province, Iraqi Security Media Cell said in a statement.
The rocket attack did not cause casualties or damages, it added.
“Each attack against the GoI, KRG and Coalition undermines the authorities of Iraqi institutions, the rule of law and Iraqi national sovereignty,” Coalition spokesman Col. Wayne Marotto said in a tweet.
He used an acronym for the Iraqi government and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).
The attack came one day after at least three rockets hit the Balad air base, north of Baghdad, where some U.S. contractors are billeted.
Three other rockets fell near the base in the attack on Sunday. No casualties or damage have been reported.
No group has claimed responsibility, but armed groups that some Iraqi officials say are backed by Iran have claimed similar incidents in the past.
U.S. officials blame Iran-backed militias for regular rocket attacks on U.S. facilities in Iraq, including near the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad.
