SULAIMANI (ESTA) — A 47-year-old man who had heart diseases died in the Kurdistan Region four days after receiving a coronavirus vaccine shot, a health official told Esta Media Network on Wednesday.

Head of the committee to investigate the death of the man at Koya hospital Dr. Hemn Rasool said the man died on Tuesday night four days after he received a Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine jab.

The man who was a teacher in Koya town, or Koysinjaq, southeast of Erbil city, had heart diseases, he further said.

“The person received the vaccine in Koya central laboratory,” Rasool told Esta Media Network.

Meanwhile, Balla Firsat, who is a relative of the man, told Esta Media Network that the diseased man had high temperatures one day after he received the jab, but he felt better the next day.

“On the fourth day, his health condition got worse and was transferred to hospital,” the man’s relative said. “The doctors did an echocardiogram for him, and they found out that his heart wasn’t in a good condition.”

“Teacher Mohammed died the same night at the hospital,” he added.

It is the first case of a man dying in the Kurdistan Region after receiving a coronavirus shot.

On Sunday, Israel’s Health Ministry said it was examining a small number of cases of heart inflammation in people who had received Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.

Israel’s pandemic response coordinator, Nachman Ash, said that a preliminary study showed “tens of incidents” of myocarditis occurring among more than 5 million vaccinated people, primarily after the second dose.

Most of the cases were reported among people up to age 30.
