Court in Sulaimani approves death sentence of man who killed wife, children

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The court of cassation in Sulaimani approved a death sentence issued for a man for killing his wife and children in 2018, a source said on Monday.

In August 2020, the judicial court in Sulaimani handed down a death sentence for Dyar Majeed, who was convicted of setting a fire in 2018 that killed his wife, Sewan Qadr, and three children.

Dyar’s family appealed the court decision following the death sentence.

The court of cassation approved the death sentence on Monday, a source at the court told Esta Media Network.

On December 16, 2018, a house was set on fire where Sewan Qadir and her three children lived in Chamchamal, west of Sulaimani.

The three children aged one, two and five years died in the fire but Sewan succumbed to her injuries after she was hospitalized for treatment for eight days.

Sewan accused her husband of setting fire to the house.
