589 more people infected with COVID-19 in Kurdistan Region – health ministry

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Up to 589 more people have been infected with the novel coronavirus in the Kurdistan Region, the ministry of health said on Sunday.

The Region’s health ministry said it had recorded 233 new cases in Erbil, 175 in Sulaimani, 31 in Garmian, 130 in Duhok and 20 in Halabja.

The ministry further said 336 more patients had recovered from COVID-19 in the previous 24 hours, while 24 others had died.

It added that six new deaths were in Erbil, four in Sulaimani, two in Garmian, three in Raparin, eight in Duhok and one in Halabja.

So far, the Kurdistan Region has registered 55,745 cases of the virus, with 1,992 deaths and 34,880 recoveries, according to figures released by the ministry.

Earlier on Sunday, the Iraqi ministry of health said it had logged 2,206 new COVID-19 cases, 62 deaths and 3,827 recoveries in the country.

Iraq’s total number of cases reached 402,330, of which 9,852 died and 336,157 recovered.
