Kurdistan Region COVID-19 cases set new daily record

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Kurdistan Region recorded more than 1,000 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, the highest number this year, according to the health ministry.

The Region’s ministry of health said it had recorded 345 cases in Erbil, 340 in Sulaimani, 236 in Duhok, four in Halabja, 69 in Garmian and 20 in Raparin.

As many as 13 patients had died from the virus in the past 24 hours, while 374 others had recovered, the health ministry said in a statement.

The Kurdistan Region’s total number of infections rose to 125,146 coronavirus cases, with 3,715 deaths, figures released by the health ministry showed.

Earlier on Sunday, spokesman of the health ministry warned that the Region was facing a “dangerous phase” of the coronavirus pandemic, as cases keep rising across the Kurdistan Region.
