Deputy director of Iraq’s military intelligence survives assassination attempt

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Deputy Director of Military Intelligence at the Iraqi Ministry of Defense survived an assassination attempt in south of Baghdad on Saturday, state news agency reported.

Brigadier General Zaid Hoshi al-Maksousi was exposed to the assassination attempt near the Diyala bridge, south of Baghdad, Iraqi News Agency cited a security source as saying.

Iraqi media cited security sources as saying that the attack was carried out by three vehicles as he was returning from the province of Wasit.

Security forces managed to seize one of the vehicles and arrest three armed men involved in the attack, according to Shafaq news and al-Sumaria news.

In March, an officer of the Iraqi National Intelligence Service (INIS) was assassinated in Baghdad’s Mansour district.
