SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraqi security forces foiled an attempt to smuggle crude oil in Kirkuk province, said the Iraqi defense ministry on Saturday.

In a statement, the Iraqi defense ministry said the security forces managed to prevent smuggling of 36,000 liters of crude oil in Kirkuk province following “precise intelligence”.

It, however, did not disclose the perpetrators who are the act.

The security forces detained the driver and seized the truck and another vehicle accompanying the truck, the ministry added.

“Smuggling oil is continuously carried out in the province,” a source from the Iraqi oil ministry told Al Araby Jadid, accusing the militias and armed groups of the act.

“This is the second attempt of smuggling oil this week,” the source added.
