KRG delegation and Shia parties reach deal on federal budget: source

Members of Iraqi Council of Representatives

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) delegation and Shia parties in Baghdad have reached an agreement on the draft federal budget law, a source in Baghdad told Esta Media Network.

The source, who spoke under condition of anonymity, said the KRG delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani and the Shia parties in Baghdad had reached a deal on articles related to the Kurdistan Region’s share of the federal budget law.

“The KRG delegation and the government delegation reached a deal after five hours of talks,” the source told Esta Media Network.

“Now, the KRG delegation and the Shia parties are writing a report on the agreement about the Kurds’ share in the budget,” the source said.

The KRG delegation arrived in Baghdad on Tuesday for talks with officials and parties in Baghdad to reach an agreement with them on the draft federal budget law.

The draft budget law commits the Kurdistan Region to hand over 250,000 barrels of oil per day and 50% of non-oil revenue to Baghdad in exchange for the Region’s share of the budget.

Iraqi Council of Representatives was scheduled to hold a session earlier on Friday to vote on the draft federal budget law, but was postponed due to disputes between the parliament’s factions.

The parliament is expected to vote on the budget bill tonight.
