SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraqi forces detained seven members of Islamic State (ISIS) in the capital, Baghdad, said Iraq’s intelligence agency.

The Iraqi directorate of general military intelligence said its units had arrested the seven militants in Dora area in south of Baghdad, based on intelligence information.

“The militants were fugitive and hid in the Kurdistan Region,” the intelligence agency said in a statement, adding that they were wanted in accordance with article 4 of counter-terrorism law.

The federal government announced victory over ISIS by the end of 2017 after Iraqi and Kurdish forces backed by U.S.-led Coalition regained control of areas once captured by the militant group.

Despite its defeat, ISIS still poses a threat to the security and stability of the country as there are still sleeper cells in Iraq.
