Kurdistan Region marks International Women’s Day

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Kurdistan Region marked the International Women’s Day on Monday, with senior officials taking to social media to share their messages of gender equality.

Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani congratulated women from the Kurdistan Region, Iraq and the world on the international women’s day.

“In their struggle to confront persecution, inequality and injustice, I reiterate my support for the women of Kurdistan,” Barzani said in a tweet on Monday.

“I hope success for them,” he added.

Prime Minister Masrour Barzani also congratulated women of the Region and world, saying the Kurdistan Region’s women were “always examples of sacrifice, resistance and defending the legitimate rights of Kurdistan’s people”.

“The Kurdistan Regional Government reaffirms its commitment to confront any gender inequality and marginalization of the role of women,” he said in a statement.

He also expressed support for women in the Kurdistan Region.

The International Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8 every year across the world. In some countries, it is considered a public holiday. In others, it is a day of protest; and for most, it is a day that celebrates womanhood.
