SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Director of Health in Sulaimani Sabah Hawrami received the first dose of coronavirus vaccine donated by China on the first day of vaccination campaign on Sunday.
Authorities in Sulaimani began the coronavirus vaccination campaign in the city after the first doses of China’s Sinopharm vaccine arrived in the city on Saturday.
The health director told reporters that healthcare workers fighting the coronavirus would be vaccinated by the 1,400 doses the province received on Saturday.
He also called on the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) to further tighten measures, predicting a surge in cases of the coronavirus in the Region after March 15.
The Kurdistan Region launched the vaccination campaign on Thursday, with healthcare workers in Erbil city.
Iraq received its first 50,000 doses of the vaccine March 1. The doses will be offered to health workers, elderly people and members of the security forces first, according to the health ministry.
The Kurdistan Region received 5,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine on March 3.
