Kurdistan Region logs 237 new COVID-19 cases in 24 hours

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Kurdistan Region recorded 237 new cases of the novel coronavirus on Wednesday, the Kurdish ministry of health said.

In a statement, the ministry said it had registered 112 cases in Erbil, 45 in Sulaimani, 72 in Duhok and eight in Garmian.

Three patients died from the virus over the last 24 hours, while 174 others recovered, the ministry added.

The Kurdistan Region’s total number of infections rose to 109,587, with 3,525 deaths and 104,918 recoveries, according to the ministry’s figures.

Meanwhile, the Iraqi health ministry recorded the highest single-day rise in COVID-19 cases, with 5,173 reported over 24 hours.

The ministry further said 25 more patients had died and 3,463 others had recovered.

As many as 708,951 patients have died from the virus in Iraq, of which 13,483 died and 646,619 recovered, according to the Iraqi health ministry.
