SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Turkey aims to open a new border crossing with neighboring Iraq, said Turkish minister of transport and infrastructure on Thursday.
Turkish minister Adil Karaismailoglu held a meeting with his Iraqi counterpart Naser Hussein Bandar in Istanbul on Thursday, according to Turkish state news agency Anadolu.
“The two countries intend to open a new border crossing and establish a railway between Turkey and Iraq,” the Turkish minister said.
Karaismailoglu added that Turkey aimed to establish close cooperation with Iraq to develop its infrastructure.
“Opening a new land border crossing between our countries and establishing a direct railway connection is our priority,” the minister said in a press conference ahead of his meeting with the Iraqi minister, according to Anadolu Agency.
Minister Bandar expressed Iraq’s desire to establish close cooperation with Turkey in the fields of motorways, railways, and aviation.
“Iraq’s problems in the aviation field will be fixed with the help of Turkey,” he said.
