SULAIMANI (ESTA) — A court in the Kurdistan Region issued arrest warrants for the general director of customs and the spokesman of Parvez Khan border crossing, according to Radio Dang in Garmian.

Qoratu/Garmian Investigative Court issued the warrants after both officials did not appear in front of a judge to hear their testimony in connection to a case in which the director of Parvez Khan border crossing and director of customs in Garmian were involved.

“The two officials did not attend a trial, so the judge issued arrest warrants for them in accordance with article 194 of customs law,” Radio Dang reported on Tuesday.

On January 19, the Qoratu court issued arrest warrants for Ali Tofiq, the director of Parvezkhan border crossing, and Hussein Ahmed, director of customs in Garmian.

The court also remanded them in custody for five days last week, but released them on bail later.

The officials’ case is related to a case filed against them in connection to a number of vehicles returned to Iran by the directorate of customs in Garmian under the directive of the ministry of finance and the general director of customs in the Kurdistan Region.

The vehicles were said to not have legal provisos and were below standard models.
