SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The volume of trade exchange between Turkey and Iraq exceeded $20 billion in 2020, said a Turkish diplomat on Sunday.

Turkish Ambassador to Iraq Fatih Yildiz said Turkey’s trade exchange with Iraq reached $20.666 billion last year, making Iraq one of the top five countries to trade with the country.

The ambassador added that the first five countries that Turkey imported goods from in 2020 were China, Germany, Russia, United States and Iraq.

The top five countries which Turkey exported to were Germany, UK, United States, Iraq and Italy, he said in a tweet.

Istanbul with $2.68 billion, Gaziantep with $1.54 billion, Mardin with 689 million, Mersin with $632 million and Sirnak with $469 million were the top five Turkish cities that had exported goods to Iraq during 2020, he tweeted.

Iraqis also ranked first among the foreigners to buy real estate in Turkey, purchasing 33,544 properties in 2020, followed by the Iranians with 18,464 properties, according to Anadolu Agency.

Iraqis had become the biggest buyers of Turkish property since January 2015, purchasing more than 30,000 residences, Daily Sabah reported in October.
