SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraqi forces destroyed 10 hideouts belonging to Islamic State (ISIS) militants in east of Saladin province, the military said on Wednesday.

Iraq’s Security Media Cell said units from Saladin operations command launched an operation to inspect and clean al-Aith area in the province, aiming to impose security and stability there.

The security forces destroyed 10 ISIS dens and three vehicles during the operation, the Iraqi military added.

On Monday, U.S.-led Coalition forces conducted an airstrike targeting an ISIS tunnel in the Makhoul mountain range in Saladin.

Iraq declared victory over Islamic State in December 2017 but the militants have regrouped in the Hamrin mountain range which extends into the northern provinces – an area described by officials as a “triangle of death”.
