SULAIMANI (ESTA) — U.S.-led Coalition forces conducted an airstrike against Islamic State (ISIS) militants in the Makhoul mountain range in Saladin province early on Monday, the Iraqi military said.

Iraqi Security Media Cell said in a statement that the Coalition warplanes bombed an ISIS cave in the Makhoul mountain range at dawn on Monday.

“The death toll from terrorist elements will be announced after the security forces arrive in the targeted place,” the Iraqi military’s statement read.

Iraq declared victory over Islamic State in December 2017 but the militants have regrouped in the Hamrin mountain range which extends into the northern provinces – an area described by officials as a “triangle of death”.
