The Deputy Prime Minister of KRG met with the new US Consul General in the region

SULAIMANI – (ESTA) Qubad Talabani, the deputy prime minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, welcomed Steve Bitne, the recently appointed US consul general and spoke with him about the political situation and ties between the US, Baghdad and the Kurdistan Region.

In the meeting held in Erbil, which was attended by Mark Straw, former US Consul General and Daban Shadala, Deputy Head of the Foreign Relations Office, Qubad Talabani praised the former US Consul for his role in the fields of human rights and freedom of expression. He wished him success in his future assignment.

Also, he congratulated the new US Consul General on his assumption of office and expressed his readiness for all kinds of cooperation and coordination for the success of his new mission.

The two sides agreed on the importance of holding clean and fair elections that reflect the will of the citizens of the region.

Regarding the relations between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad, the need to strengthen relations was emphasized in order to resolve the issues in a fundamental manner and in accordance with the constitution.

In another topic, they discussed how to strengthen relations between the Kurdistan Region and the United States and agreed on further coordination and cooperation to strengthen relations between the Kurdistan Region and the United States in various fields.
